Quick Repairs for Glasses
If you own a pair of glasses, you may notice some signs of wear and tear.
A few scratches here, some bending on the frame there. You may as well get a new pair, but all isn’t lost. You can still save your old pair of glasses before considering getting a new one.
Let’s take a look at a few quick repairs for your specs.
Most pairs of glasses will come with lenses that are scratch-proof, but even they’ll get scratched on the surface.
Scratches on your lenses are terribly annoying. You might think about throwing them away and have them replaced.
However, you can still iron out the scratches on the eyeglass’ surface. First, clean your glasses to make sure no dust can further ruin the lenses. For this, use an eyeglass cleaner to get rid of debris on your lenses.
Next, firmly rub non-abrasive toothpaste on the scratched areas using a cotton cloth and rinse your glasses in cold water. This should make your glasses look as good as new.
Glasses might be bent out of shape. But there are several things to consider in fixing them. If your nose pads are too high, you can bend them back into shape by slowly pushing them out, loosening them with your thumb until they’re comfortably well-adjusted. The same can be done with the temples of your glasses as well.
Additionally, the “arms” of your eyeglasses can also be bent out of shape, these need more care. One trick here is to use hot water to make them easier to adjust without the risk of breaking.
One of the most annoying problems in owning a pair of glasses is waking up one morning and discovering your hinge screw is missing!
After some time, the hinges tend to get loose and will eventually fall off. Thankfully, this can be remedied without having you go to your nearest eyewear store.
Find yourself an eyeglass kit. From drugstore and supermarket, these can be found almost anywhere. These kits include a small screwdriver and a spare hinge screw. This should make you ready to fix your glasses right away.
